Soccer/Multi-sport Camp PM 5 – 7 years
Sportplay is now offering afternoon soccer specific classes for 5 – 7 year old boys and girls. Sign up for the afternoon PM Soccer or choose the Full Day Multi-sport/Soccer and do multi-sport camp in the morning and soccer in the afternoon. The camp is modeled on the same schedule as our multi-sport camp but instead of doing two multi-sport classes in the afternoon kids will do two soccer classes.
*Please note that if there are not sufficient numbers to run a separate soccer camp in the afternoon we will combine the 5 – 7 soccer campers and multi-sport campers in one group. In this situation there will be a minimum of one soccer class each afternoon as well as one multi-sport class.
Soccer Classes focus on individual and team soccer skills. and playing the “games within the games”. Kids will learn all the aspects of soccer through skill instruction, skill-related play, adapted game play and game play. The program is inclusive, progressive and participation based. Kids will use appropriately sized real soccer balls during classes.
General Camp Description
Each half-day of camp includes 4 periods. Kids will always have 2 x 45 min. sport classes per half day. The other two classes will include a rotation of Lego® play, crafts, circle games and waterplay. A Juice/Snack/Toilet Break occurs at the mid-point of each half-day session. A supervised lunch period is included for full-day campers. During the summer, activities are held indoors and outdoors. All Sportplay classes and activities are safe, planned, progressive, active, creative, inclusive and designed to maximize participation. For a more detailed schedule please see the Daily Camp Schedule.
• Multi-Sport Classes include positive supportive skill instruction combined with fun, creative games so kids learn the important aspects of the major sports. Kids learn a new sport each period including Baseball, Ball hockey, Basketball, Football, Soccer, Tennis, Track & Field and Volleyball. Our child-centered, play-based program is rooted in a Physical Education model that allows kids to develop, explore and practice the Gross Motor and Athletic Skills related to each sport. We take the key skills from each sport and create games from them so kids learn the "games within the games".
• LEGO® Play helps develop fine motor skills, building skills, building concepts, creativity and teamwork. Fun, communication and cooperation will be emphasized. Kids will work together in small groups to accomplish challenges and projects which will be presented to the group.
• Arts & Crafts classes focus on crafts that kids make themselves with direction and supervision from staff. When kids do their own drawing, cutting and pasting they are developing fine motor skills and a sense of accomplishment. Whenever possible crafts are connected to the sport or circle game curriculum for that day and may be used to create plays, puppet shows, uniforms, noisemakers, songs, games and activities.
• Circle Games include Parachute Games, Language Games, Art and Drama Games, Counting Games, Music Games, Cheers, Dexterity Games, Games of Skill and Cooperative Games. The Circle Game activities will usually be related to the Craft and Sport Class curriculum for that day.
• Juice/Snack break occurs at the mid-point of each half-day session. Please ensure kids have adequate nut-free snacks and drinks for their time at camp. All children should bring a water bottle to use as needed throughout the day.
• Toilet Breaks - Children attending camp must be toilet trained. Children needing to use the toilet will be accompanied by a staff and at least one "Bathroom Buddy". Staff will wait at the door of the washroom to supervise and support children as required.
• Supervised Lunch Periods are included for full-day campers. Full-day campers should bring a full nut-free lunch in addition to snacks and drinks for breaks. The lunch period is broken into eating time and supervised play time. Sportplay is a Nut-Free camp.
• Summer Camp participants will be doing indoor and outdoor activities. At least 1/3 of camp time will be spent outdoors. Campers should bring sun hats and sun screen. Please apply sunscreen to children before they arrive at camp.
• Water Play activities occur only during summer camp. Kids participate in a combination of organized games and supervised free play designed to reinforce skills in a fun and wet way. Equipment used for Water Play includes wading pools, sprinklers, slip and slides, sponges, cups, balloons, parachutes and ice cubes. Children at Sportplay Camp WILL NOT be swimming or entering a swimming pool.
• Extended Care is available at most locations for parents that require it. Children in Extended Care will be supervised and will be engaged with Colouring and Activity Books, Board Games, Games of Skill and Free Play.
